| Dear Travel Mate,
As you may be aware, the year 2007 has been announced
as the ‘Tourism Year’ in Gujarat. The state has just had a tremendous
event in the ‘International Kite Festival’, where thousands of
participants from around the world and India basked in the celebration
as the Tourism Year got unveiled in Joie de Vivre. We invite one
and all to tour the land of Gujarat where Life is
a Celebration.
The state of Gujarat offers kaleidoscopic insights
into life-rich heritage, grandeur of rare architecture, breathtaking
scenic beauty, untamed exotic adventure spots, wildlife habitat,
a great legacy and culture that’s probably one of the oldest civilizations,
abode of extraordinary artisans and weavers.
There is never a dull day in Gujarat as shades
of celebration, sung through folklores and a platter full of festivals
is served almost every other day.
Come March 12 and two more exciting culture curries
would come calling; a spiritual programme at the serene Jain pilgrimage
Palitana-March 12 and an enthralling Holi festival on March 14
at Dakor, a landmark devout of Lord Krishna.
Palitana is a ‘must visit' destination, if you
wish to witness what the subtle combination of human enterprise,
architectural skills, philanthropy and collective religious fervour
can achieve. The entire summit of majestic mount Shatrunjaya,
where the Palitana temples are located, is crowned with about
900 temples, each rivaling the other for beauty and magnificence,
presenting an awe-inspiring spectacle to devotees and visitors.
Because of its sanctity, every devout Jain aspires
to climb to the top of the mountain at least once in his lifetime.
The Parikrama festival is an arduous devotion as it commands stringent
code for climbers. The Parikrama ( a sacred visit, performed along
a circular circuit) covers a path through six sacred shrines and
is meant for inner reconciliation and to return to innocence by
sacred convictions.
Marvel comes in profusion in Palitana… and, if the memories are
to linger, take home the cherished artifacts and pieces of flamboyance
from the Palitana craft bazaar to sway your emotions in eternity.
March 14 shall dole out a totally difference
feel, the one to make you go drench in delight...the holi festival
at Dakor on March 14. The gala, celebrated in the Falgun Purnima
(full moon day) marks one of the many important events at Dakor.
Dakor, a small town down south Ahmedabad at around 90 km, is a
celebrated shrine of Lord Krishna.
The festival of colours, Holi sprays euphoria
all over as thousands of devotees nestle in utter bliss. And,
what better way than the sacred Bhogas/ Prasad at the food courts
to feel the taste of devotion. Dakor is renowned for "gotas" -
a fried delicacy much in demand by pilgrims and tourists alike.
Being a temple town it is full of all the conveniences a pilgrim
can want. While you relish the enthralling hymns, don’t miss to
visit the dedicated craft bazaar to take home the icons of faith
and fascination.
Still hungry for the thrill?
Spirituality meets Adventure at Palitana as you
travel these excursions of Blackbuck National Park (55 km), Bhavnagar-
the palace city of Gujarat, Dwarka, Somnath and the roaring abode
of Asiatic lion, Sansan Gir Sanctuary.
It’s a reverence of kind unlike any other. Come and loot the
abundance of leisure pleasure and what more, you also get special
tour packages as well.
